I found Piers Anthony in grade school. I had already found D&D, so I recognized all kinds of fantasy creatures. One day on the bus, I turned around in my seat to see a classmate reading a book with a manticore on the cover. I asked if I could read it after she was done. Between then and the year 2000 I read almost everything Piers had ever written (I skipped Pornucopia). I had a collection that would have made the local library drool. I was on the fan club mailing list, and I still have the Xanth board game and the painted pewter Xanth miniatures. Sci-if, Fantasy, autobiographical…there are some good reads in there, amongst and outside of the pun-fest that is Xanth. I have no trouble admitting I’ve always liked a good pun.
