With no other directions, the party continued to head up the river. We were ambushed by 5 giant panthers with tentacles growing out of their shoulders. These illusionary creatures weren’t where they first appeared to be. Later Darian remembered they were called Displacer Beasts. They might not have been such a menace to us, but Marwin was having an off day. A very off day. The illusionary nature of the beasts didn’t help.
Speaking of off days, Draskillion split the head of his maul on a sharp rock. How unlucky is that?
The good news is that we didn’t lose any of the party before the beasts were killed. Braden and Ryfon were able to salvage two of the beast hides for use in the future.
That night, Darian summoned some large caltrops to protect our campsite before he went to sleep. The way he talked, they should have kept us safe until morning. The things disappeared before the first hour of watch was over! To their credit, they did ward off a bear that was getting a little close to camp.
The next morning we started following the stream up the mountainside. Ryfon found a pool with six sets of giant footprints around it (like the footprints of giants). The seemed to come down from the mountain, mill about the pool, and head back up the mountain. We decided to check the place out to see if we could find the entrance to the Underdark.
While we were thus engaged, Braden climbed up the mountain a bit more and found a cave from whence the spring sprung. We found our entrance.
